🧪 NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK 🔬 National Science Week was a great opportunity for our students to get involved in some fun, hands-on Science activities! Throughout the week, students took part in paper rocket launches, created vortexes in a cup, made elephant toothpaste and slime worms, and explored the fascinating effects of liquid nitrogen. The week finished with an exciting liquid nitrogen demonstration, followed by some delicious liquid nitrogen ice cream! 🍦❄️ A big thank you to Mrs Hamilton, our Science teachers and all the teachers who led activities throughout the week. Your enthusiasm helped bring Science to life and encouraged our students to explore, experiment and ask questions. 🙏 CSPD EDUCATION MASS 2026 ✝️ Yesterday, we were proud to have Matilda and Dominic, Daven and David represent Penola Catholic College as our 2026 flag bearers for the Education Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Parramatta. Their families joined us for this special celebration marking the 40th Anniversary of the Diocese of Parramatta and 40 years of Catholic education across Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains. We were delighted that the Mayor of Penrith, Councillor Todd Carney, joined our group for photos. Our students also had the privilege of hearing from NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning, the Hon. Prue Car, and CSPD Chief Executive Officer, Jack de Groot, who spoke powerfully about the mission of Catholic education and the strength of our school communities. The Mass, led beautifully by Bishop Vincent Long, Bishop of Parramatta, was a moment of thanksgiving to God for four decades of faith, learning and service across our Diocese. Each school was invited to nominate a student to carry their school flag in the procession, a meaningful symbol of unity across our 82 schools. ⭐ 2027 COLLEGE CAPTAINS ⭐ We are delighted to share the appointment of our College Captains and Vice Captains for 2027. Congratulations to Tiana and Zac, our 2027 College Captains, and to Alexis and Thomas, our 2027 College Vice Captains. Each of these students has shown a genuine commitment to our community and a deep alignment with the values we cherish at Penola - compassion, integrity, courage and hope. Their leadership reflects not only their abilities, but the character and spirit they bring to our College. ⭐ YEAR 12 2027 LEADERS INDUCTION CEREMONY ⭐ Today, our College community came together to formally induct our 2027 Year 12 Student Leaders in a special ceremony. Our College Captains, House Captains and SRC Leaders were presented with their leadership badges, marking the beginning of their journey and symbolising the trust and responsibility placed in them by our community. Surrounded by their peers, staff and families, we celebrated these students as they stepped forward to serve and lead. We pray that they remain grounded in Christ, lead with courage, compassion, hope and integrity, and follow the example of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop in all they do. 🐑 NEW ARRIVALS 🐑 Our Ag Plot family welcomed two new lambs over the weekend! One arrived on Friday to a maiden ewe, followed by another on Sunday to a first-time mum. With three more ewes still to give birth and the Penrith Show just around the corner, there’s plenty happening at the Ag Plot! ⭐ BENNELONG IN LONDON PERFORMANCE ⭐ Penola Catholic College is extremely proud of Hannah and Hudson, who recently attended the Bennelong in London performance in Sydney. Hannah and Hudson were selected by the Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese (CSPD) in recognition of their work and involvement with plays and performances within the Aboriginal community. Their selection provided them with a wonderful opportunity to engage with an important First Nations story and represent Penola Catholic College. Bennelong in London explores the life and experiences of Woollarawarre Bennelong, a Wangal man who lived during the early period of British colonisation in Australia. The play explores the complex experiences of Aboriginal people during colonisation, including themes of Country, culture, identity, relationships, displacement and the impacts of British settlement. The performance provides an opportunity for audiences to consider Australia's colonial history through the experiences and perspectives of First Nations people, while highlighting the importance of Aboriginal stories and voices. Penola is extremely proud of Hannah and Hudson for representing our school and community and for engaging with such an important piece of First Nations storytelling.
