🥁 YEAR 8 DRUM BEATS 🥁 Year 8 students recently took part in an engaging drumming incursion with Drum Beats, bringing their study of Global Music Cultures to life. Through hands-on rhythm activities, students explored how music connects people across cultures, while building teamwork, confidence, and having fun while learning together.

🏅 CELEBRATING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT 🏅 At a recent whole College assembly, we recognised and celebrated students as they received certificates for their achievements representing the College in recent competitions. Students who participated in the CSDA Public Speaking Competition were acknowledged, along with our Year 8 students who competed in the Da Vinci Decathlon, who achieved 1st place in Engineering and 3rd place in Ideation. We are proud of the dedication, courage and commitment shown by these students, and the way they represented our College with integrity.

🎨 AGNSW ARTEXPRESS 🖼️ Last Friday, Year 9, 10, 11 and 12 Visual Arts students attended an excursion to the Art Gallery of New South Wales. It was a beautiful day, and students enjoyed a scenic walk through the Domain to reach the gallery. Our students were incredibly fortunate to experience four outstanding exhibitions: ARTEXPRESS, showcasing exemplary HSC major works; The Key’s Under the Mat, an immersive underground playground in the TANK exhibition space; Ron Muecks's 'Encounter' exhibition of incredible hyper realistic sculptures of human figures and the 25th Biennale of Sydney, featuring a diverse range of contemporary Australian and international artworks. Students particularly enjoyed engaging with Hewson’s dystopian playground, exploring the interactive environment with enthusiasm and a great sense of fun! They visited both the modern and traditional gallery buildings, gaining insight into a wide range of artistic practices and contexts. Our students were exceptional throughout the day, demonstrating curiosity, respect and engagement. It was a truly enriching cultural and artistic experience for all involved. ⭐ JAPANESE EXCHANGE VISIT ⭐ Last week, our College was delighted to welcome students and teachers from Sagamihara High School, Japan. It was a meaningful time of connection, where students shared in learning, friendship and cultural exchange. Throughout the week, our students and their buddies embraced the opportunity to learn from one another, building relationships and creating lasting memories together. As we farewelled our visitors, Mrs Sparkes presented gifts to the students and their teachers, marking the conclusion of a special and enriching experience. We extend our sincere thanks to the families who so generously opened their homes and welcomed our visitors into the Penola community. 💙 JSS DAY 💙 Our recent JSS Day was a wonderful expression of generosity and community spirit at Penola. We are sincerely grateful to all families and students who donated grocery items in support of Jesuit Social Services (JSS). Your generosity will make a meaningful difference to those in need and reflects the compassion at the heart of our community. ⭐ JSS DAY SAUSAGE SIZZLE FUNDRAISER ⭐ A great day of community, generosity and action at Penola 💙 Last week, our College came together for our JSS Day Sausage Sizzle, raising $1,125 in support of Jesuit Social Services. Every sausage sizzle purchased contributed to the important work of JSS, a social change organisation dedicated to building a more just society through practical support and advocacy. Their work supports young people, families and communities across areas including justice, education, housing and mental health. Thank you to all students, staff and families who played a part. 700+ Unite for Project Compassion Big Water Walk
More than 700 students and staff from 23 schools across Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese (CSPD) came together for Caritas Australia’s Big Water Walk in support of Project Compassion. Beginning at Parramatta Park, students carried buckets of water along a 4km route, gaining a glimpse of the daily journey faced by people in developing communities, especially women and children, in search of clean water.

The Year 7 Camp is taking place next Monday 30 March 2026 ⛺️✨ We look forward to this special opportunity for our students to connect, challenge themselves and grow together as part of their Penola journey. A reminder to families to please ensure permission has been granted via Compass and all required forms, including swimming, medical and dietary information, have been completed. 🍀ST PATRICK’S DAY FUNDRAISER ⭐ Last Tuesday, our College came together in true Penola spirit, raising an incredible $1,406.52 for Caritas Australia and their important work. These funds will support efforts to alleviate poverty, hunger and injustice, both in Australia and around the world. From access to education and clean water, to sustainable development and emergency relief, this is generosity in action. There was a great sense of energy and purpose throughout the day, a reminder that when we come together, even the simplest acts can have a powerful impact.
