McCarthy Catholic College, Emu Plains Year 10 student, Elayna D’Ermilio, has won the 2015 Rotary Youth Community Service Award.
Elayna has been involved in many programs and served the college and local community through teaching scripture at local public schools, assisting with Salvation Army programs and raising money for the Red Cross appeals.
Elayna is actively involved in many school activities and programs including being a grand finalist in debating and public speaking, a reader/writer for students with special provisions for examinations, a Duke of Edinburgh program participant, presenter for school ceremonies, host for open days, an Ignite Leadership program leader, assisting with the Year 7 Mathematics Day and a presenter for school liturgies.
Elayna was also a UWS Fast Forward team member and a camp supervisor.
Elayna said being well organised is how she manages to fit so much into the time available.
‘Being able to help others is an honour in itself,’ Elayna said.
McCarthy’s Careers Adviser, Craig Laffin, said Elayna is an extraordinary young Australian who gives so much to so many.
‘Through dedicating her time to serving others, Elayna sets a fine example of what it means to be apart of the Catholic community,’ Craig said.
