Each year hundreds of Special Religious Education teachers (SREs/catechists) gather for the Annual Diocesan Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) Mass and Awards Ceremony. This year Good Shepherd Parish Plumpton hosted the Mass on Friday September 7.
It was a great celebration of this ministry when over 400 SREs from across the Diocese joined the 300 student SREs from Catholic schools to give thanks for the many blessings received, and to pray for our students in public schools and their families.
Bishop Vincent in his homily, offered words of encouragement and hope when he said, “This Eucharist is a thanksgiving to God for your active, faithful and generous discipleship. As Confraternity of Christian Doctrine volunteers, you bring the new wine of God’s love and mercy to the hearts of the young people.”
Bishop Vincent went on to say that, “At this time when the Church’s reputation, moral credibility and trust capital are effectively shattered in the wake of the sexual abuse crisis… we join forces with Pope Francis in repairing and restoring the Body of Christ. Now is the time for us to rebuild the Church as a beacon of hope for the world by living the radical vision of love, justice, compassion and solidarity.”
After the conclusion of Mass, the congregation remained seated while Bishop Vincent presented service awards and certificates.

⭐HUMAN CONNECTIONS⭐ On Tuesday, our Year 9 and 10 students engaged in enriching workshops with Human Connections. Year 9 took part in the Accidental Counsellor for Teens workshop. This workshop is designed to equip students with essential skills to support both their friends and themselves during times of emotional need. Meanwhile, at the Year 10 workshop, the session was called 7 Steps to Motivate.This session was designed to cultivate a success-oriented mindset and attitude. Our Students were provided with practical strategies on motivation, resilience, overcoming procrastination and fostering a mindset conducive to success. Special mention goes to Cordell D from Year 10, who not only delivered the Ode of Remembrance but also showcased remarkable talent by playing the bugle for the Reveille and Rouse. His extraordinary effort truly made the ceremony memorable. ♟️PENOLA CHESS TOURNAMENT♟️ Our library recently hosted the Penola Chess Tournament, consisting of three rounds followed by a grand final. The intense Grand Final took place in the Mary Courtyard between Mr Drake and Daniel R from Year 9. After a gripping match, Daniel R emerged victorious as the champion of the 2024 Chess Tournament! With ANZAC Day recognised at the end of the school holidays this year, local schools are getting in early with their ceremonies, remembering those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Monday's event at Penola Catholic College was coordinated by history teacher Nicholas Hall, whose personal connection to the day made it even more significant.

⭐YEAR 11 CAFS EXCURSION⭐ As part of the course work covered in Year 11 Community and Family Studies, an excursion to the city was organised to learn about independence, leadership, self confidence, decision making, group dynamics, and more. Students formed groups, navigated to Hyde Park, and explored iconic parts of the city like Darling Harbour, Mrs Macquarie's Chair and the Opera House. ⭐JARARA VISIT⭐ The Jarara Cultural Centre recently visited our college to conduct group sessions with our Aboriginal students, focusing on Traditional Indigenous Fibre Crafts. These crafts are deeply intertwined with ceremonial rituals and daily life, serving both spiritual and practical purposes. In collaboration with Parramatta Catholic Schools NSW, the CSPD Jarara Cultural Centre plays a vital role in fostering cultural exchange, building capacity, and providing pastoral care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families. 🎨YEAR 9 & 11 VISUAL ARTS🖌️ Both Year 9 and Year 11 Visual Arts classes embarked on an enlightening excursion to the Art Gallery NSW in Sydney. Aligned with their exploration of 'Natural Form' and 'Developing an Independent Body of Work', this excursion provided students with the opportunity to observe and interact with the exemplary works of artists, which will serve as inspiration and inform the practical components of their respective courses within the classroom setting. 🙏 EASTER PASSION PLAY 🙏 As Lent closed and the school term moved toward Easter our Holy Week Liturgy was upon us. This year, as part of our Liturgical celebration, Mr Sutton directed a small Passion Play performed by our Year 7.6 class. The students exhibited immense enthusiasm and dedication to their roles, and we commend them for their heartfelt performance.
